Torrent Site BTJunkie Shut Downs Voluntarily

After Megaupload shutdown next in line is BTJunkie. BitTorrent indexing site BTJunkie has decided to wrap up their website.

Visiting btjunkie.org currently displays a blank page with nothing more than “btjunkie 2005-2012″ and a brief note from the founders.

“This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down,” they wrote. “We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!”

Internet IP addresses will run out ‘in the next 24 hours’

Growth of Internet-enabled phones like the iPhone and web use in Asia has seen a rapid depletion of IP addresses, which are going to run out in the next 24 hours.

Every device, which connects to the Internet, is assigned a “number” but with millions of web enabled phones now online they are fast running out.

IP addresses act as “phone numbers” to ensure that surfers reach websites and e-mails find their destination.

The system, which had been set up in the 1980s, with a maximum of 4.1 billion addresses was supposed to never run out. Read more…

Global IP address stock ‘nearing depletion’

The stock of IP addresses is about to get over very soon, it has emerged.

Once that happens, each of the five regional agencies that hand out net addresses will get one of the remaining blocks (called /8) of 16 million addresses, which will also be exhausted by September 2011.

And the trigger for the distribution is likely to come from a body known as Apnic, the agency that oversees net addresses in the Asia-Pacific region.

Geoff Huston, chief scientist at the agency, said that once Apnic’s store of addresses falls below a key threshold, it will ask for more from the central repository – the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).
